Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

If you're experiencing any of these situations, call us immediately. Time can make a critical difference in saving a tooth.

Severe Toothache

Intense, throbbing pain that won't go away. May indicate an abscess or deep infection requiring urgent treatment.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

Whether from trauma or biting something hard, a broken tooth needs prompt attention to prevent infection and further damage.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out permanent tooth can potentially be reimplanted if you act within 30–60 minutes. Keep the tooth moist and call immediately.

Swelling or Abscess

Facial swelling, a pimple on the gums, or pus discharge can signal a dental abscess — a serious infection that needs immediate care.

Lost Filling or Crown

A lost filling or crown exposes the tooth to bacteria and sensitivity. We can replace it quickly to protect your tooth.

Bleeding That Won't Stop

Persistent bleeding from the gums or after an extraction that doesn't stop with pressure needs professional attention.

What to Do Before You Get Here

While you're on your way to our clinic, here are some quick first-aid steps that can help:

!

For a Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water. Take over-the-counter pain relief (ibuprofen). Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek. Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth or gums.

!

For a Knocked-Out Tooth

Handle only by the crown (white part), never the root. Gently rinse if dirty — do not scrub. Try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in milk or saliva. Get to us within 30 minutes if possible.

!

For a Broken Tooth

Rinse with warm water. Apply gauze to any bleeding area for 10 minutes. Use a cold compress on the cheek to reduce swelling. Save any tooth fragments and bring them with you.

Emergency Dental Questions

A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, or signs of infection (fever, swelling, pus). If you're unsure, call us — we'll advise you on whether you need immediate care.
We recommend calling first so we can prepare for your visit and minimize your wait time. However, if you're in severe pain and can't reach us by phone, you're welcome to walk in during business hours and we'll do our best to see you.
The cost depends on the treatment needed. We'll examine you, explain the issue, and give you a clear cost estimate before proceeding. Emergency exams and X-rays are typically covered by insurance. We bill directly to most insurance providers and accept CDCP.
If you experience a dental emergency outside our business hours, call our clinic number and follow the instructions for after-hours guidance. For life-threatening situations (difficulty breathing, uncontrolled facial swelling), go to your nearest emergency room immediately.
